Fall is here…

Okay, so it’s been here for a month now but I’m just getting around to updating again!

We are all doing wonderfully here at  the Demkowicz household. There was a little bug making its way around our little family but thankfully I got it the worst, and really, if anyone is going to get sickest it should be the mommy. But we are all back to normal more or less and pressing on.

Halloween is ocming up and we will be celebrating it in a whole new way this year.  Our family has been invited to an All Hallows Eve party and the boys will be dressing as saints. Hejjo wants to be Juan Diego, which is exciting for me because I have all kinds of ideas on how to make his shawl, etc. Felix, well, I am thinking about making Felix St. George and dressing Lina in Hejjo’s old dino/dragon costume and having Felix “slay” Lina with his sword as part of the costume… a little too much? Perhaps, but interactive and fun! And I think Martin and I will be sticks in the mud and not dress up…we’ll see… Next I have to figure out what treats I will make for the holiday! More research on that one.

So, we have been talking a lot about Fall and Halloween and a little about Thanksgiving even though its not for another month. The boys are obsessed with pumpkins, having them, carving them, positioning them, etc. So we will be carving our first jack-o-lantern this weekend and the boys cant wait to pick out their pumpkins. We  even made a homemade scarecrow which turned out pretty good. We have been going to the library and getting books about fall and leaves changing colors and thanksgiving etc. And yesterday we colored our own pumpkins!

Hejjo is enjoying learning at home and while homeschooling is more or less working for now the future might be different. We’re taking it one day at a time. Felix is as talkative and energetic as ever, and cuddly! He loves to cuddle with anyone and demands “cuddle time” before going down to naps and bedtime. Such a sweety, and finally curbing a little of the frantic yelling and screaming that was plaguing our lives. Lina is just being herself, sweet and cheerful and calm. She moves around a lot and is almost crawling but not quite there yet. She can sit up on her own and make it around the room but for some reason she has decided that crawling is beneath her. She is almost pulling up as well! She is def. a princess.

So, we’re doing good, looking forward to the holidays as they start to roll in, and trying to stay healthy. And I am going to try and do a better job of updating the blog more often. I’m not entirely sure anyone actually reads it, but its fun for me if I can stick with it.

Some family updates!

Two big news items from our family recently.

First of all:  for those of you who have not been getting the updates, Kyle’s transplant surgery went wonderfully!  I know that there is stuill a lot of “maintenance” care that will go on for the weeks and months ahead but so far I hear that the new kidney (donated by his brother Todd) is working great and that Kyle and Teresa and Aidan are doing well. We continue to pray for their little family as they heal.

Secondly: Emily will be expecting her hew little brother or sister any day now but most def. by this weekend!  We are all so excited to welcome another cousin and niece or nephew. I know Kate and Eli are anxiously awaiting the baby’s arrival and I am looking forward to a trip to San Anonio this weekend to meet him/her.

It has been a momentous summer so far and it will continue to be so for sure. All our prayers have been answered for the health and safety of our family members. We are so blessed.

July 4th weekend!

We had a wonderful July 4th weekend!  Martin had Friday off from work so we had a long three day weekend to spend together!

We spent Friday visiting witht he Demkowicz side of the family who had just returned from a trip to Europe. It was the first time we had seen them in a month! Later that day we set up our new water slide in the backyard and had a blast playing in the water. Felix is  abit scared of the slide so Hejjo pretty much has an entire water slide to himself, lucky kid.

Saturday we had a long fun day planned with the Danze side of the family but I was a little concerned the boys wouldn’t make it through the whole day without a major meltdown. We got off to an early start and got to Fredericksburg, Texas in time for the annual 4th of July family parade. We saw fire engines and tanks and lots of different cars and bikes. We had a great time waving to everyone. After the parade we went to a local restaurant for lunch. I think the boys were so hungry after standign in the heat during the parade that they spent the entire lunch eating their food quietly and keeping each other company.  After lunch we went ot the local airstrip and got ice cream at their little cafe. Really good milkshakes!  Next we went to the horse races!  That was a a lot of fun but we only stayed a little while becaue Martin and I needed a rest. The kids didnt want to leave. Lastly, we ended up back at “the rock” to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Danze and great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa Danze. We ate some great food and relaxed.

The entire day I could not believe how well-behaved and sweet the boys were. It went better than I could have dreamed. Martin and I were both impressed and really enjoyed ourselves.

Sunday we spent the morning putting up curtains and cleaning p the house, went to church and ate a late lunch with the Demkowicz family. We spent the evening resting and setting up our new dining table! (finally! it is awesome, so much bigger and better suited for kids!)

It was a wonderful weekend!

Spring will be over in less than two weeks and we are still going strong over here in the Demkowicz household. We have NOT been sick in the least, thank goodness but we have been BUSY.

We spent the last two weekends in May celebrating Marynia and Niki’s graduations from college and high school. The first weekend in June is always Big Hill Sunday, and our next two weekends are also full of family affairs and a wedding in Ft. Worth! (congrats Meg!).   I think we will try and take a break in July.  Maybe Martin can even take a day off for a long weekend to the beach!  I will be posting pics. from Big Hill as soon as I get some from my gracious family. Check back soon.

To the doctor’s office we go…yuck.

Two days in a row of taking kids for “check-ups.” I am thankful that we are only going for check-ups and nothing more.  But, I dont really need a doctor to weigh and measure my kids to tell me that they are healthy. I can SEE that they are healthy. Oh well.  Just hope I dont have to wrestle any nurses to get my kids out of there without any unecessary procedures.  (like a TB test!  why the heck do they need a TB test?  no thank you.)

Anyway, I wont go into my suspicion/disdain for all things medical. I will update with their “wellness” when we get back! And hopefully they won’t pick up any germs while we are there!

Some fun pictures of late and the only pictures that we have form Adelina’s Baptism from our camera:  ALL taken by Hejjo.  As you will see, most of the pictures taken by Hejjo are headless. The roses are from our rose bush…. 20 blooms all at once and right now there are about 10 more blooming… very pretty!
